About the Author

Hi, I’m Maureen.

When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a writer.  But somewhere along the way I became a scientist instead.  I created this blog in hopes to get some of my creative writing energies out.  I am an inquisitive person who likes to learn and explore, particularly anything that has to do with the earth sciences.  Right now I work with soil but I am also very much interested in geology, geography, and climate.

My interests do extend beyond the realm of science.  While my sister is definitely the artist in the family, I sometimes fancy myself a crafty person.  I enjoy scrapbooking, decorating, making posters and presentations, jewelry making, and any other arts & crafts projects that may come my way.  I also like exploring the outdoors and swimming and experimenting with new recipes and playing with puppies.

One of my favorite things to do is travel, and perhaps one day this blog will actually chronicle my world travels as the title suggests.  But for now I spend a lot of time traveling around the state of New Mexico, hiking in forests and learning many new things about the world around me.

I had a friend from New Mexico! But now she lives in Madrid, with her husband (he’s Spanish). And another friend of mine has been to New Mexico for 4 months (studying)…
Humm… I want to visit New Mexico (and NYC, WDC,California, Florida, Hawaii…)!
    Nice to meet you!
Looking forward to read more about you!

  • Have you abandoned A Work in Progress? Or are you just starting it up? I love the underground adventure theme. Have you seen Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride with the Monty Python guys? Some fun scenes in Mole’s home are truly underground adventures.

I’m just playing around with different layouts right now with the idea of eventually moving this blog over there, but I haven’t decided for sure yet. I’ll be on this site until further notice. Haven’t seen the Monty Python thing, sounds cool!

Hey, I’m from Michigan, too! The middle of the cornfield, AKA Nowhere.
